2022 Medical Student Research Scholarship

Applications are no longer being accepted for the 2022 Medical Student Research Scholarship

Dear CMSC Member:

The Foundation of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (FCMSC) was established to support the mission of the CMSC through charitable and educational initiatives that are building the future of MS care. FCMSC initiatives work to create a prepared MS professional workforce; build a global MS patient registry that holds clues to epidemiology, treatment and outcomes; provide additional research opportunities; and fund scholarships and fellowships to encourage the next generation of medical students to pursue MS as a specialty in clinical care and research.

Program Announcement:

In support of the MS Workforce of the Future Program, we are pleased to announce the 2022 continuation of our FCMSC Medical Student Research Scholarship Program.  Successful applicants may conduct research projects during the 2022/2023 academic term.  The FCMSC will award medical student research scholarships of $5,000 each to fund mentored research projects under the tutelage of CMSC member experts with the funds administered by the respective academic institutions.

Each scholar will be invited to present his/her project results in poster form along with participation in a special recognition event during the 2023 CMSC Annual Meeting in Aurora, CO, May 31 to June 3, 2023. For students able to return for these presentations, an additional $2,500 scholarship will be provided to cover presentation expenses, meeting registration, hotel, and travel.

Please note that scholarships will be awarded only through academic institutions/preceptors who are active members of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers.

Eligibility/Program Details:

Student applicants must be currently enrolled and actively training in an accredited medical school program.

Qualified applicants should arrange a proposed research program with a mentor at a CMSC member center prior to submitting their application.  The research plan and literature review must be written by the student with mentor guidance and briefly described in the application.

The proposed project should be of such a length that results can be submitted by the abstract deadline date of March 31, 2023. Background and guidelines for the award, as well as an application form, are provided in the links below.

Application is now closed. Monitor our website for future announcements.

Project Results:

Scholar research projects results will be displayed in a dedicated FCMSC Scholar poster area at the 2023 CMSC annual meeting. All scholarship awardees are required to submit an abstract of project results which will be published in a non-indexed Scholar Recognition publication distributed by the FCMSC.

Peer Review Abstract Submission:

Scholars may also opt to submit their project abstract results through the CMSC peer-review abstract submission process.  (Please refer to the CMSC annual meeting website www.mscare.org for the 2023 peer review process and submission deadlines.)  If accepted by the CMSC selection committee, CMSC presentation abstracts will be published in a dedicated issue of the International Journal of MS CarePlease note this is a separate process from the FCMSC scholarship abstract.
